HOW DID I GET INTO FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY? - JAY MCLAUGHLIN
From my very first steps as a photographer, my images were inspired by fashion or were always fashion-related in some way. My formative years were in the 90’s, when the supermodels were at their peak. I remember having a poster of Cindy Crawford on my wall, and Herb Ritts was directing music videos for Chris Isaak and Michael Jackson featuring Helena Christensen and Naomi Campbell respectively…. it was a magical time! So all these visuals were ingrained into me from the start.
Although the 9 years I’ve been working as a fashion photographer is quite a short amount of time in the grand scheme of things, the industry has changed significantly. Social media and the internet are far more prominent than when I first started.
Nowadays, I travel light. It sounds boring, but my favourite bit of kit… the only piece I couldn’t live without, is simply… a camera! Nothing else matters.
