Byron Wijayawardena is a freelance creative director, cinematographer, editor, colourist & educator based in West London.

Byron started photography at the age of 14 using his dad’s old Olympus OM-2n stills camera. Not long after he got his first super 8 camera and then began his lifelong love affair with the photographic image and storytelling. After a degree in Aerospace Engineering, he followed up with a Masters in Film, Photography and Fine Art (as you do!) and to round things off a Masters in Design from Central St. Martins School of Art and Design, in order to have a thorough understanding in all aspects of the technical and the creative arts.

After a brief early spell teaching – and as luck would have it – Byron was fortunate enough to get a job at Apple from 2001 to 2012 where he was part of the incredible growth of the Apple Professional Software Applications division. He then worked for several years as a Creative Director producing video content and learning all he could about colour grading from senior colourists from around the world from Hollywood to Bollywood. He has worked on everything from feature films, short films, documentaries, music videos, fashion videos, wedding videos, customer profiles videos, corporate videos, and social media marketing content.

Byron is passionate about training the next generation of cinematographers, editors & colourists to create amazing cinematic images and tell inspiring stories. He does so whenever and however he can, he has secrets to share and is a wizard with software. He believes there is true beauty & wonder in moments frozen in time and equally so in moments that unfold across time and motion.

Byron has just begun his motion picture journey with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II in much the same way Olympus has and he’s very impressed so far – he wonders if you might be interested too?
