WEDDING PORTRAITS WORKSHOP
Brand ambassador and distinguished wedding and portrait photographer Robert Pugh recently hosted one of his very popular wedding business workshops, in association with Olympus. This time the venue and location was the stunning Danesfield House Hotel & Spa, in the immensely pretty town of Marlow, Buckinghamshire.
The ‘focus’ of the event – if you’ll forgive the pun – was the capture of bride and groom portraits using off-camera flash – or ‘speedlights’ – in order to introduce drama and dynamism. The day began with a 30-minute talk on available software packages for wedding photographers looking to turn their photographic skills into a business opportunity, before moving on to explore the presentation options available to add an extra air of prestige to your work.
At 11am it was time for the first shoot with natural light. Using the soft edge of light from the doorways worked a treat before we started to add reflectors to sofen the shadows.
At 11am it was time to get practical and embark on the day’s first photo shoot – this time utilising natural light indoors. Here soft light filtered through doorways worked a treat before reflectors were deployed to soften the shadows. Before too long though it was time to get the flash out and try a portable battery pack kit and flash head combo, before moving outside and using the sun itself as a secondary light source.
“The day was a massive success,” recalls Robert. “We covered every possibility when it came to wedding portraiture, and even ended the day with a live edit in Lightroom and Photoshop with ‘grand master’ Gavin Hoey. In short, this was an event that you shouldn’t have missed!”
