EXHIBITION – EXPLORING ECUADOR
12th June - 24th JuneFree
Join us for an exhibition of images showcasing the incredible culture, flora and fauna of the hugely biodiverse country of Ecuador, as captured by a group of professional photographers. Follow them on their journey from the bustle of Quito’s cobbled streets and mystical Chocó cloud forest, to the wilds of the fabled Galapagos Islands.
Using the latest Olympus OM-D and Tough camera equipment, Tommy Clarke, Kyle Miller, Elke Frotscher, Jack Anstey and Olympus Ambassador Jay McLaughlin were tasked with capturing the unique landscapes and wildlife both above and below the water during this epic trip.
Regarded as a heritage brand of the Galapagos Islands, Metropolitan Touring took the first ever group of tourists to the archipelago back in the 1960’s and so it seemed fitting for the group to begin their journey on these fabled isles. Starting at the Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel, the group had a chance to experience local Galapageño life, before embarking on a four-day expedition of the Northern Galapagos Islands onboard the Santa Cruz II. Here they had the chance to photograph those iconic species synonymous with Galapagos, including Sea Lions, Marine Iguanas, Giant Tortoise and Blue-Footed Boobies, among many others.
The group returned to the mainland with Casa Gangotena as their base from which to explore the cobbled streets of Quito’s Old Town, delving into bustling markets, visiting local healers and exploring the city’s blossoming culinary scene.
The journey ended in Ecuador’s mystical cloud forest at award-winning eco-sanctuary, Mashpi Lodge, where the group had the chance to photograph the birdlife, tree frogs, snakes and spiders hidden among the emerald-green foliage as they sailed above the canopy on a gondola or pedalled past treetops by Sky Bike.
A specially produced photography book will also be available to purchase throughout the week-long exhibition at a suggested donation of £10 per book. All proceeds of which will be donated to the Galapagos Conservation Trust, the only UK charity focused solely on the conservation of the Galapagos Archipelago.
Join us at London’s After Nyne Gallery between 12th – 18th June to see a selection of work from all five photographers.
